Adobe announced Acrobat 3D, finally. This is their first foray into 3D. I wrote earlier that they are missing the boat on 3D.

The premise of Acrobat 3D is to enable smooth collaboration amongst various non CAD users within the organizations workflow i.e. sales, marketing, visual merchandising, channel management, etc. who traditionally could not view designs in 3D. With 2D pictures of 3D products, much data is lost, making the process inefficient and unproductive.

For a while now, CRM and PLM vendors have been looking for a good bridge. The only one that existed so far was Autodesks DWF, which works with AutoCAD / Inventor design files.

However, in the Mechanical Design marketplace, the major houses are:

1. Dassault, which owns CATIA (high-end 3D CAD), Solidworks (mid-market 3D CAD), a PDM called SmarTeam, and a PLM product called Enovia, which IBM Global Services sells and integrated.

2. Parametric, which owns ProE (high-end 3D CAD) and Windchill (PLM)

3. Autodesk

4. UGS (recently LBOd by SIlverlake and Bain)

5. think3 with ThinkDesign, ThinkID, ThinkTeam - all mid-range products.

Given that any 3D Viewer product such as Acrobat 3D will need to pass through a CAD-engineers hands, to be written into an Acrobar readable format, it is safe to assume that having deep-pocket CAD relationships would be immensely valuable.

So, let us see who has what in terms of viwers:

Autodesk has DWF. No one else has anything else. However, there are some independent viewers out there, Right Hemisphere and TornadoVIZ. In fact, it is Right Hemispheres technology that enables Acrobat 3D, Adobe Ventures has an investment in the company along with Sequoia Capital, and it would be safe to assume that Adobe will buy this company eventually.

I have heard, however, that Acrobat 3D is a very heavy product. In comparison, TornadoVIZ has a very light-weight technology, which would, by and large, need to be an essential characteristic of any 3D viewer such as the ones under discussion.

While Adobe will try to be Switzerland, and not take a preferred CAD system position, it is likely, they will get locked out of the Autodesk eco-system. If I were Dassault, then, would I want a proprietary viewer (perhaps via a Tornado acquisition), or would I be okay with Adobes neutral position?

It can be your son's photo, and your husbands photo you can morph images of your son in to his father or his grandfather, or you can morph your own self to your mother...See all it requires is a morphing software, and the images, and a few clicks away see even you are editing! Great thing! Big achievement. You will feel you are creating graphics for a fairy tale!

It is always important to edit your photographs in order. Always start adjusting the light exposure effects and then land up adjusting the red eye effect. See follow this sequence, exposure, color, crop, eliminate red eye! You can work in any order, but a sequential methodology is a safe game for better results.

The light settings in a photograph can be adjusted with sliders, auto adjust option in the fix pane is a very effective idea. Even after you turn auto adjust you can further adjust the light settings if you are not satisfied with the output of the software! You can make your color pictures to black and white, and black and white pictures to color by adjusting the exposure mode. If you have a color photograph you can use the adjust color option in fix pane to change it to a black and white. Color picture can be changed to black and white, but the other way round may not be natural unless you are an expert editor and technically very sound!

Have fun with you picture. On side of photo editing on a computer is animated gif. You can take your photos and make them come to life. Making a moving butterfly in the background of a mountain shoot is awesome. Wow you friends and family next time you upload a photo to your blog from you latest family vacation.

Tips for Photographing Animals

You can't pose undomesticated animals per say, but you can capture the moment―even if it looks like you posed them.
Much of the same principles apply towards photographing animals as it does towards humans. Keep these basic principles in mind as you photograph animals:

1) Eye contact is important, but not always necessary. In some instances, a pose with eye contact from an animal works. In my opinion, this type of pose is equivalent to a traditional, formal portraiture. When the pose works, the body position is natural and shows the full-body.

2) The surrounding setting is important too. If there are a couple of background textures and tones which complement the animal and setting, this would be perfect! In this way, the animal and setting (the background) contain visual unity.

3) The camera's flash fills in shadows and enhances the appearance of humans, as well as animals. Take a fill flash photograph and look for the shadows on and around the animal's body. Now, take another photograph without the flash. Without the flash, part of the animals face is darkened and the shadows are not as pleasing to the eye. The shadows tell us about the form and shape of an object. Normally though, shadows can add beauty to forms.

4) Viewpoint perspectives can make or break a photograph. Sometimes, shooting down on an animal works and other times not. Photographers have to make needed adjustments for each situation. While maintaining eye contact with an animal, just as with people, the animal should not be straining his or her neck to look at you (or the camera). Make sure the pose of the animal is not disturbing to look at. The animal should look true to form and natural.

Basically, make sure the animal looks content and relaxed. Watch your background too. Sometimes, all you have to do is move to the side a few steps to get that memorable shot! (revised 2/15/2006)

The only console system you can currently make games for is the Xbox 360. To do so you need to download XNA and join their "Creator's Club" for $99.00 a year. XNA has been designed to be fairly easy to use, but some programming experience is required.

There are many options if you want to make your own games on the PC. The first thing you need to know is the difference between a game engine, and a GCS (Game Creation System.)

Game Engines:

A video game engine is just that, an engine. Few if any tools come with it, so some programming is required. There are many commercial engines available such as the Unreal Engine or CryEngine 2, and almost as many free alternatives. Crystal Space 3D and the Irrlicht Engine are examples of the later.

GCSs:

If you don't want to mess with any programming you need a GCS. A GCS packages a video game engine along with a variety of tools which can be used to make a game. There are a lot of commercial options, such as Torque or Gamestudio, but no comprehensive free or open source alternatives. Delta 3D is one such choice, but you will need additional tools to create games with it.

So your best bet is to use tools that are specialized for different aspects of game development. You will need a good programming environment, a good image editor, a good sound and music editor, and a good modeling animation studio.

The current industry standard modeling and animation studios are 3DS Max and Maya. However True Space and Blender both provide excellent free alternatives, and are backed by large, supportive communities. The industry standard image editing programs are Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Photoshop, but the free alternatives Gimp and Paint.NET will work just as well. Animation Business in China - An Uncertain Outlook

The future for China's animation industry is uncertain.

Since the late 80s, China has been a choice location for outsourcing 2D cartoon series to due to its low cost. But since a couple of years back, the number of outsourced projects to China has decreased, and the future for China's animation industry is uncertain as homegrown animation products are also not bringing in the cash.

At of this moment, the China economy is rising at a meteoric rate and wages are also increasing due to higher standards of living. The higher wages and increasing costs are discouraging some companies from outsourcing their work to China. In the wake of countries like India, Thailand and the Philippines competing for a piece of the outsourcing pie, China struggles even more as it loses some ground due to the language barrier. Most outsourcing companies hail from English speaking territories and the Chinese are more lacking in English than their Indian and Filipino competitors.

Due to this, China animation companies figured that they had to stop depending on outsourced work and start creating their own intellectual property. If the foreigners could make their billions through animation, why couldn't they?

After all, they have the expertise and experience garnered through years of outsourcing work right?

Well, not quite right. The problem is - they are technically sound but creatively weak! 90% of the cartoons produced by homegrown companies are so bad at their concepts and story-telling that even local broadcasters refuse to broadcast them. And of the 10% that are accepted as the 'cream of the crop', only some are good enough to sell to the rest of the world. And by rest of the world, I mean just a handful of territories.

Enter the Chinese government, who came up with policies to grant monetary incentives to Chinese companies who produce their own original content in an effort to encourage better production quality. But creativity is something cultivated by decades of media exposure and cultural freedom - both of which China is lacking in. It did not help that the Chinese government restricted the broadcast of foreign content on local TV stations, effectively restricting the dissemination of creativity that these foreign content bring. The monetary incentives did encourage more companies to create their own original content, but did little to increase the quality of the content. They could at best sell to China provincial TV stations (which paid very little or nothing at all) and some low-paying countries around the world, hardly recouping their investments.

The animation companies then looked at licensing opportunities for the characters that appear in their cartoon content as a secondary source of income. However, piracy is rampant in China and many manufacturers and consumers do not respect intellectual property rights. With a population of 1.4 billion people, the merchandising potential is enormous if this situation can be improved! Strangely though, they seem to respect foreign intellectual properties much better. Walt Disney, Looney Tunes and some Korean brands are apparently enjoying healthy sales over there.

At this moment, China animation companies are fighting a tough battle for their survival. Many have collapsed amidst failed venture funds and mounting debts. The ones that are surviving are doing just that - surviving. A small handful appear to be doing fine due to a healthy inflow of outsourced work. But how long can the outsourced work keep coming in? And when the tap finally stops flowing, will the China homegrown animation products finally mature enough to make it to the world market and grow secondary income through licensing and merchandising?

First I have to say I really love playing Warhammer Online - I almost consider myself an addict!! And I'm always looking for new options to fast Warhammer Online leveling. I came across Penn's 1-40 leveling guide, and thought I would give it a try.

This guide, like a few others, offers leveling options for both sides (Destruction and Order) in Warhammer. So it's two guides actually. They are written so you can solo your way all the way WITH NO GRINDING! Penn doesn't just give you tips on what to do either, he gives you STEP-BY-STEP instructions!

Another perk was that I was able to do this all by myself. Of course, having a partner in the game makes time go by a lot faster, but being able to level fast all by myself was a huge plus for this guide. Another good thing about Penn's Warhammer leveling guide, was that he offers you a sample of the guide, COMPLETELY FREE before you pay for it. It was really nice to sample the guide before paying. It gave me a lot of confidence that what I was buying was for real.

The only downside about his Destruction and Order guides is that they are still in development. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because Penn offers daily updates until the guides are complete, but currently the Destruction guide is only complete to level 26, and the Order guide is only complete to level 22. With that being said, I give Penn's Leveling Guide a 4 out of 5 rating. I'm sure the guides will be complete in near future, but you still cant complain because of the daily updates and the fact that even after they are complete Penn will be refining the leveling paths daily until it is perfect.
